Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz (PSL) stated on Tuesday on the ZET radio that drones coming from the east border should be shot down, "if appropriate". The head of the MON, however, stressed that the decisions in this case belong to General Maciej Klisz's Operations Commander.
The Minister of Defence noted that General Klish had his full support in making these hard decisions. Kosiniak-Kamish explained that the full air defence strategy must measure whether "the shooting has greater effects on the civilian population or less".
Difficult operating decisions
The head of the MON stressed the complexity of the situation, pointing out the request to analyse the kind of flying facilities. "It is the Operations Commander (...) who has a decision to make (...). This is simply a hard decision. This is simply a decision requiring discernment, skills" - said the minister.
Kosiniak-Kamysz pointed out that it should be determined whether we are dealing with "armed drones, decoy drones or smuggling drones". The minister stressed that "this is the difficulty and this hard analysis".
Regional context
The head of the MON pointed out the scale of the problem in the region, pointing out that "there are days where there are years of over 800 drones on the Ukrainian side". The Minister stated that akin situations "in the 4th year of armed conflict, happen in another countries".
Kosiniak-Kamish appealed for knowing for a hard situation, saying, "We request to remember where we live and what happens abroad". The minister added that each of the countries of the region "considers how to respond to this".
Provision to residents
The head of the MON addressed the border residents directly, ensuring that they were protected. "I want to assure all those who live right next to the border (...) that we are doing everything together with Border defender and another services to guarantee the highest level of security" - said the minister.
Kosiniak-Kamish added a realistic warning: "But we live in specified a place, not another place." The Minister stressed that Polish services will intensify their efforts despite Russia's expanding attacks on Ukraine.
Recent incidents
On Sunday night on Monday, the Border defender found remains of a drone in Polatycze, Lublin, 300 metres from the border crossing with Belarus. The prosecution informed on Tuesday that it was not a combat drone - on any parts there were inscriptions of Cyrillic.
It's another case of a drone collapse in the Lublin region recently. On Saturday the remains of the drone were found in Majdan-Silec, 50 kilometres from the border with Ukraine - according to the spokesperson for the MON Janusz Seymej it was "a drone with no military features", most likely smuggling.
The most serious incidental occurred on the night of 19-20 August under the Osinas in Lublin, where the flying object fell into the field and exploded. As a consequence of the explosion, glass windows in close homes were broken - according to Kosiniak-Kamish it was a Russian drone and provocation of Russia.
