Modern, mobile, and versatile – this is what the Unmanned Land Weapons strategy “Kuna” is, which went to soldiers from the 19th Lublin Mechanized Brigade. They will be the first to test the possibilities of a fresh Polish unmanned man. The first exercises “Kuna” began on 8 September 2025 at the camp in Orzysz and will last until 31 October.
Designed by a consortium led by the Military Institute of Armoured and car Technology, the BLSU “Kuna” is simply a modern land drone for reconnaissance operations, combat terrorism and support of individuals in crisis situations. On 8 September, he went to the field of the Training Centre of the Land Forces in Orzysz, where – as the first – Kuna capabilities are checked by soldiers from the 19th Lublin Mechanized Brigade. Exercises with fresh equipment will last until 31 October 2025.
– The tests are besides intended to gather experience and pass it on to manufacturers to improve the plan Unmanned and even better adapt it to the needs of soldiers – future equipment users – wrote Deputy Minister Cezary Tomczyk on portal X.
Comprehensiveness and informational advantage
Unmanned Kuna was created after analyses of the experience of the battlefield in Ukraine. The Kuna is equipped with LIDAR sensors, cameras and another detection systems. This enables her to avoid obstacles on her own, allowing her to operate even in hard and unknown territory. The caterpillars supply good mobility – it works on sand, mud, stones and in a hard area where average wheeled vehicles may fail, or sending a patrol of soldiers would be besides risky.
A large advantage of this unmanned vehicle is modular construction. The vehicle can be rapidly adapted to various tasks – from logistics to peculiar activities. For example, the transport module allows transport of equipment, tools, building materials or humanitarian aid. Both the vehicle and its modules are equipped with peculiar handles that let easy loading and unloading utilizing forklifts. This makes it easier to rapidly change configuration and prepare Kuna for further tasks.
On the another hand, integration with the Unmanned Aircraft Raven allows distant way planning through Kuna and control at longer distances. Air unmanned aircraft has systems that facilitate control, frequency management and real-time image and data transmission.
Kuna can support soldiers at any phase of the action – from preparation to combat to evacuation of the wounded and supply of supplies.
New opportunities, fresh procedures, fresh approach
The emergence of fresh equipment means the request to make fresh rules for its use. That's why training and investigating are being conducted in Orzysz. Soldiers not only learn how to operate Kuna, but besides co-create the tactics of its usage – based on their own experience and needs of the battlefield. The aim of the exercise in Orzysz will besides be to make fresh tactics, techniques and procedures for combat-free usage of unmanned weapons systems.
