The suppression of the genocide of Ukrainian nationalists
The word “genocide” will so not be replaced by terms specified as “criminal” or “ethnic cleansing”, but by a neutral “conflict” that does not clearly indicate who the aggressor was. This is simply a kind of false, superficial symmetrism that the unoriented may propose that the guilt is to the same degree on both sides.
❗️❗️🇵🇱🇺🇦 If we don't respect our story, I don't know who will respect it. The proposal for EXEMPTION in the programming basis from the past of the phrase "including the genocide of the Polish population" in the context of the Volyn crime is in my opinion not a good direction. I hope that's what they're for... pic.twitter.com/Zyt7HXAtbP

Let us remind that on 11 and 12 July 1943, UPA committed a violent assault on Polish residents of 150 localities in Volyn. This was an apogee that had been in existence since the beginning of 1943 a wave of crimes in Poles, in which the consequence in Volyn and in Eastern Galicia About 100,000 died. There can be absolutely no symmetry of wine here. specified an approach would be an insult to Poles.
In Ukraine, Bandera cult is well
In July 2023, the 80th anniversary of the Volyn massacre fell. The memory of the victims was honored. Let us point out that part of Ukrainian society recognizes nationalists who were oppressors of the Polish population years ago as national heroes. In March 2021, Tarnopol's authorities gave the stadium the name Roman Szuchewycz, commander of UPA, liable for the genocide of Poles. akin initiatives were implemented in the western part of Ukraine. Monuments are being erected during the present war.
Let us add that the average Ukrainians' character Bandera is associated first with opposition to the expansion of the USSR and communist ideology. They don't frequently match it with genocide. The praise of UPA is so not intended to reconcile their perception in Poland, but alternatively the way of expressing opposition to the russian Union and the present imperial actions of Russia, as well as the component of strengthening their national identity in the face of Russian aggression. However, there is inactive a deficiency of serious dialog between Polish and Ukrainian authorities on a common painful history, which would enable the start of a fresh phase in Polish-Ukrainian relations. When, as it seems, Ukrainians do not show an initiative to respect the Polish sensitivity and memory of that hecatomb, Poles make a good motion that will make our country talk about asymmetrical actions.
Polish society is solidarity towards the fighting Ukraine, but it besides requires assertiveness not only in the issue of grain, but besides in a traumatic history.
