The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia plans to establish a secondary vocational school with a military profile in Malta in the municipality of Rzeżyca.
"Col. Oskar Kalpaks mediate School is simply a perfect example of how we cultivate patriotism among young people and encourage them to prosecute a military career. We see quite a few interest among young people in military education, so we decided to set up a school in Latgalia, just like the Kalpaks School," said Defence Minister Andris Sprūds.
Ministry of Defence assessed educational institutions in the Latgalia region in the context ofneeds and criteria of the future school. Local authorities have besides submitted their infrastructure for evaluation. Based on the information obtained, it was considered that the secondary school in Malta in the municipality of Rzeżyca was the most suitable.
In the fresh school, which is to bear the name of General Pēteris Radziņš, the general education subjects will be combined with the acquisition of military skills. It is planned that up to 30 students will be admitted in the first year of school.
Ministry of Defence will prepare a study for the governmenton the creation of a fresh school.
