The Baltic and Nordic countries (NB8) issued a joint message on 12 May in which they confirmed their support for Ukraine's quest for peace and called for an immediate unconditional ceasefire in the war begun by Russia.

The message shall read in its entirety:

"Norse and Baltic States (NB8) stand with Ukraine on their way to peace and end Russia's aggressive war.

Ukraine wants peace. We, the Nordic and Baltic countries, want peace. We repeat our call for a full, unconditional, immediate ceasefire for 30 days, with the anticipation of renewal. Only the aggressor, Russia, refused to accept this approach.

In good faith, we are pleased with the advancement made in the negotiations that pave the way for a just and lasting peace. We praise the president of Ukraine Zelenski for his willingness to meet Putin personally. In the run-up to the talks, we call on Russia to refrain from any attacks on the population and civilian infrastructure. Together with the European Union, the United States and partners, we are ready to impose further sanctions if the ceasefire is not respected."
