"Lithuania will not rebuild the relation it erstwhile had with China," says Lithuanian Parliament president Saulius Skvernelis, among another things, about supporting Beijing for Russia.
"We will not rebuild old relations, but it is possible to keep the same relationsAs in all another EU countries," said Skvernelis. "China's state is clear and unchanging. And in this situation, at the time, with the Russian invasion on a large scale and war in Ukraine, China as an ally of Russia makes the situation problematic, so there is no public effort to reconstruct erstwhile relations. As I said, there will be no specified thing," Skvernelis stressed.
The relation between Vilnius and Beijing deteriorated erstwhile Taiwan opened a representation in Lithuania in 2021. any politicians hoped this would lead to technological cooperation in chip production.
Beijing, which considers Taiwan to be part of China, considered it a violation of the alleged policy of 1 China. While in another countries the island representations usually happen under the name ‘Taipei’, in Lithuania they are called ‘Taiwans’. Beijing called for a change of name to normalize relations.
