On Thursday, the Court of Appeals in Gdańsk held a review process in the case of Wojciech O. ps. Lizard and Marcin O. ps. Ludwick, whose lower court sentenced in December last year for crimes concerning hatred speech.

An appeal from the verdict was made by a defence lawyer of men, who first asked for their acquittal. Advocate Sławomir Rycielski accused the court of first instance, among others, of bias and misassessment of evidence.

The conviction was handed down on 5 December 2024 before the Elbląg territory Court. The case afraid statements made by the defendants on 27 August 2022 in Stębark. The video was later released on the "My Point of View" channel on YouTube, and fragments of it were besides aired on Belarusian television. Wojciech O. was convicted of threats to Belarusian opponents due to their political affiliation, the insult and slander of blogger writer and creator of Next Stsiapan Putsila online channel and the insult of Swiatlana Cichanouska.

For these actions, the court sentenced him to a full of 8 months of restrictions on freedom, consisting of an work of unpaid social work of 30 hours a period and an work to pay PLN 2000 to the Fund for Harmful Aid and Postpenitentiary Assistance (known as the Justice Fund).

On the another hand, Marcin O. was convicted of insulting Swiatlana Cichanouska. He received a punishment of 3 months of restrictions on freedom in the form of social work and 1000 PLN of cash benefit besides for the Justice Fund.

The defendants weren't in the courtroom on Thursday. Men are in custody in connection with an investigation in which the prosecution accuses them of a full of over 140 acts, including incitement to violence.

In June this year, the court applied a temporary arrest against Wojciech O. and Marcin O. for 2 months.
