The Council of Ministers adopted a bill prepared by the Ministry of Labour, thanks to which many Polish seniors will shortly receive higher benefits. This group will include persons who retired in June in certain years. The expected average increase is PLN 220.
It would seem that a period of retirement should not affect how advanced the benefits will be paid to us by the Social Insurance Institution. Unfortunately, in practice it is different and Polish seniors can get little just due to the fact that they did not apply a period earlier or later. June pensions are a common definition of benefits for persons born after 1948, which were granted in June between 2009 and 2019. This so applies to women born between 1949 and 1959 and men born between 1949 and 1954. This problem was partially resolved by the Law of 2021, according to which in specified situations it applies the indicator for May of a given year. However, it included only future recipients. When will they even out June pensions? ZUS will pay money for respective months
According to the Ministry of Labour, on 8 July 2025 the Council of Ministers adopted a bill on determining the amount of benefits from the Social Insurance Fund granted in June 2009-2019. Its proposal to the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy concerns both pensions and household pensions after insured persons whose benefits have been fixed within the same period. The fresh benefit will be determined utilizing the coefficient of weighting of contributions for May of a given year, if this is more favourable to the pensioner. The pension thus calculated will then be validated and the Social safety Office will find the final amount of the benefit. Importantly, it cannot be lower than the present. According to estimates of the Ministry of Labour, these changes will cover about 103 1000 people, with an average increase of about 220 PLN.
The conversion of June pensions will take place from the office, so seniors do not gotta take any additional steps. The portal Forsal.pl emphasizes that the bill is to enter into force from 1 January 2026, but the higher pension will apply from 1 July 2025. Equalisations are to be paid by the end of March 2026, which means that a one-off compensation can be paid to us for a period of 9 months.
