Infotag: Moldovan exports shrinked by almost 12% in the first quarter

Exports from Moldova amounted to US$811.5 million in the period January–March, a decrease of 11.9% compared to the same period of 2024. As reported by the National Statistical Office on May 15, the value of home exports reached $638.6 million (a decrease of 10.7%) and the remainder was re-export.

62.2% of Moldovan exports with a full value of $504.9 million (decreased by 16.6%), went to the European Union countries and 6.3% went to the Commonwealth of Independent States (51 million dollars). The main recipients of Moldovan goods were Romania (27.6% of full exports), Turkey (14.1%), Italy (9%), Ukraine (8.6%) and the Czech Republic (8%).

Oil plants – 15.5%, electrical equipment – 15.1%, vegetables and fruit – 10%, cereals – 8%, clothing – 7% and drinks – 6.6% were the biggest contributors in the export structure.

On the another hand, imports to Moldova showed an increase of 18.3%, reaching 2.549 billion leu. More than half of the imports came from EU countries – $1.421 billion (an increase of 39.7%).

The largest share of imports was natural gas (13.6%), petroleum products (7.9%), transport modes (7.3%), machinery and equipment (6.1%) and electricity (4.3%).
