On Sunday evening, many people went to bed with the belief that Rafał Trzaskowski was the president. After all, it won in 10 out of 16 provinces according to the exit poll. However, voters in the east of the country were more determined and simply gave more votes. This yet tipped the scales of triumph in favour of Karol Nawrocki. I will explain this determination in 3 points, although the problem is evidently more complex.
LGBT issue. For Warsaw they are friends from work, for the east "changers from the Parade of Equality"
Let's start with a purely social factor. An crucial point in the social debate is the discussion of LGBT people all the time. For me, people who have lived in Warsaw for 10 years, lesbians and gays are colleagues and colleagues, neighbors, just average people, only those who love people of the same sex.
However, erstwhile I go in the household direction (and I do it regularly), the situation is completely different. For them LGBT people are not neighbors or acquaintances, but – here a literal quote heard on the street – "the freaks of the Parade of Equality". These people have no contact with this community all day, so they justice them by the prism of what is shown on the Parades of Equality, and there are many things exaggerated due to the fact that that's a bit about it. The image of this community besides does not improve broadcasts on TV, which always pay attention to contrast points.
Against this background, the respectable LGBT Rafał Trzaskowski was automatically a worse candidate than the household and devout Karol Nawrocki. And the promises of non-adoption of children by homosexuals or "no ideology in schools" hit susceptible ground. At the same time, the deficiency of knowing and unawareness of LGBT individuals was detrimental to the PO candidate.
It wasn't the election behind the candidate, it was the party. And this is where Nawrock was helped by Donald Tusk.
In the face of the common movement of a society tired of the power of the Law, but besides the agreement of many parties, the Law and Justice lost power in 2023. However, it is worth remembering that they won the election. Donald Tusk then received a immense credit, a chance to settle irregularities and start implementing changes. What did he do with her?
This clearly showed the first 100 days of his rule. During this time, the 100 specifics were realized... 6. There were comments that the Prime Minister needed more time. He's been in power for 20 months now. What changed in Poland?
Inflation's inactive good. There is no improvement on abortion or partnerships. And of course, it can be explained by friction in the coalition, or the deficiency of the signature of president Andrzej Duda under laws adopted by the Sejm. However, bringing politicians associated with the Justice Fund to court whether or not the visa scandal required the approval and signature of the President. However, in this field too, the coalition passed the blamash.
Kamiński and Wąsik are out of custody. Romanowski was first detained illegally, and erstwhile he could yet be arrested legally, he escaped to Hungary. Putting Ziobra in front of the Seym Investigative Commission was besides a series of failures.
And now let's put this together with the people in the east. Many of them live from the lowest national, without savings. Their reasoning is frequently very simple – "I want I could just live better." What did he get for Tusk? Higher prices in stores, inability to account for the Law and Justice and the possible of raising the retirement age, where a large part of this society works physically. Can you truly imagine a 67-year-old truck driver?
Security and aversion to Ukraine only fuel dislike
Speaking of work, the Ukrainian issue is an crucial component here. Although there are no shortages of Ukrainians in large cities, many of them work physically in factories in the east of our country. In my hometown, I hear Ukrainians more frequently than Polish. And that annoys people. According to them, Ukrainians came to Poland to make money. They took jobs from Poles, and in the end they are very demanding. Aversion to them continues to grow. Eventually, Grzegorz Braun was breaking the Ukrainian flag in Biała Podlaska for a reason.
There is besides the question of securing the east border. It is actual that Trzaskowski promised to increase defence spending to 5% of GDP and funds for the modernization of the army invested in Polish industry. But it was for Tusk that the migration pact was adopted in the EU and no 1 believes that migrants in Poland will not appear. Nawrocki made it clear that he would not let them to enter the country. Since he is supported by the PiS, which "stopped" migrants at the border with Belarus, his assurances may have seemed more credible.
In addition, a purely intellectual issue must be considered. In the face of danger, society escapes into conservatism. And it was the people of the east regions in fresh years who watched military vehicles pass by their homes. It's for the Law and Justice that a number of crucial arms supply contracts have been signed.
Finally, let us not treat people surviving in the east of Poland as a "dark garden" due to the fact that they are not. They simply live differently, they are raised in a different environment, they have different needs and values than the richer west, or people from large cities. Additionally, for years they were treated as inferior, and thanks to PiS they felt noticed. They feel that this is the organization that is working for their interests. And that's the right thing to do.
