Lobster-K increasingly Polish

Polish weapons plants will produce lobster-K rocket launcher modules. This is the consequence of an agreement signed present by the Armed Forces Agency and Hanwha Aerospace, a South Korean maker of multi-guided K239 Chunmoo rocket launchers. For the purposes of the Polish Army, launchers are integrated into the Jelcz chassis and are named lobster-K.

The contract was signed at the global Defence manufacture Salon in Kielce. The Polish side was represented by Colonel Robert Fromholz, Deputy Head of the Armed Forces Agency. The second signature was given by Boo-hwan Lee, the boss Hanwha Aerospace. The subject of the licensing agreement is the transfer to the Treasury of method documentation and the granting of rights to usage this documentation for the production of spare parts for multi-guided lobster-K rocket launchers and their assembly. The Armed Forces Agency informed that as a result, the obtained licence would be transferred to further licensees in the Polish defence industry.

The lobster-K is 1 of the main elements of the expansion of Polish rocket artillery. The strategy based on the South Korean K239 Chunmoo launcher was integrated into the Polish Jelcz chassis and the Topaz fire control system. Polish army is to receive 290 modules Norway lobster-K. The first implementing agreement included 218 modules and the second – signed in April 2024 – another 72. All deliveries are scheduled for 2023–2029.

The strategy can usage different types of guided missile. Each launcher has 2 trays, each of which can hold six 239 mm caliber rockets with a scope of up to 80 km or 1 600/607 mm tactical rocket with a scope of about 290 km.

In December 2024, the Ministry of National Defence reported that 66 modules were sent to Poland on the basis of the first contract, including 35 complete launchers embedded on Jelcz's chassis. The hotel then indicated that the deliveries of further copies had been accelerated. In the agreement for 72 further modules, the transfer of technology concerning, among others, the servicing of the launch plant, the production of spare parts and the establishment of possible for further production in Poland was besides recorded. MON besides announced the improvement of home ammunition production into the system.

The protection of lobster-K launchers is intended to supply Polish drones, among others. In December 2024, the Armed Forces Agency signed a contract with WB Electronics to supply 12 sets of unmanned air systems intended to identify and shield the divisions of the squadrons equipped with a lobster-K launcher.

They are part of a wider programme of strengthening Polish rocket artillery. In parallel, Poland is developing a lobster-A strategy based on US HIMARS launchers, on which MON has concluded a framework agreement covering 486 launchers.
