How to operate effectively in hard winter conditions in the field of combat saturated with drones and how to combat specified threats – this is the subject of Polish-American “Ghost Hunt” exercises in the Świętszów camp. These include soldiers of the 7th US Army Cavalry Regiment and subdivisions from 3 units forming part of the 11th Lubuskie Armor Cavalry Division.
The pattern on which the exercise script is based seems simple at first glance. First, Polish soldiers enter the action. utilizing drones, they conduct a reconnaissance of the designated area, and if this 1 turns out to be clean, the Americans proceed to action. The motorized infantry platoon is moving towards the enemy's position. However, he must be on defender all the time, for he is repeatedly harassed by the enemy unmanned.
This is usually the introduction to a large blow from the air. But all this time the Americans can number on the support of Polish airmen. – We long an umbrella over them, resisting the attacks aimed at them. We are dealing with various types of drones, mostly tiny devices, both rotor and lobe – explains 1 of the officers 4 Green Mountain Anti-Aircraft Regimentwho takes part in the exercises.
It is this kind of unmanned aircraft that are commonly utilized during the war in Ukraine. The tiny explosives-carrying drones brought a full fresh quality to the battlefield. They pose a direct threat even to individual divisions, vehicles or lower-level command stations. NATO soldiers learn how to fight them. This can be done with jamming devices called jammerami. However, the military besides uses more conventional methods.
During the Ghost Hunt exercise, Polish soldiers usage portable rocket launchers Thunder and Lightning. Sets of the first kind can harm targets moving from 500 m to 5.5 km and up to 3,500 m. Lightning is their improved version. They destruct aircraft up to 6,5 km away, and at the same time scope a ceiling of 4 1000 metres. The advantages of this weapon were confirmed in the war – primarily in Ukraine, and in the case of Gromów besides earlier – in Georgia.
Soldiers besides usage vehicles Poprad, equipped with 4 projectiles suitable for both types. In Świętszów, we don't fire dense ammunition. School-training equipment is connected to anti-aircraft kits, explains an officer of the Green Mountain Regiment. As he adds, the commander of soldiers sees how they track the mark and execute a simulated shot, and is able to measure its effectiveness.
Of course, it can be assumed that to drop a drone worth respective 1000 gold soldiers will not always usage a comparatively costly rocket anywhere. But first, the military must be prepared for any eventuality, and second, the Ghost huntsman is besides intended to aid build another kinds of capabilities.
– Our goal is to comprehensively train anti-aircraft operators. We besides want to build interoperability with American troops, and this from the lowest tactical levels, and here our soldiers work with individual platoons of the US Army," says Major Michał Binek, spokesperson for 4 pplot. – Finally, it is crucial to be able to operate in hard winter conditions, and in Świętoszow the temperature fell at times to minus seventeen degrees Celsius,” says Major Binek.
During Ghost Hunt, training takes place both day and after dark. The exercises are attended by soldiers of 2nd Battalion of the 7th U.S. Army Cavalry Regiment, who have been stationed on the east flank of NATO for any time, as well as airmen from 3 Polish units. Next to the 4 game are this 17 The Greater Poland Mechanized Brigade and 10th Armored Cavalry Brigade. All belong to 11th Lublin Armored Cavalry Division. The exercise itself will last until tomorrow.
