The F-35 is the largest military program in the world. Its full costs are estimated at $1.7 trillion (including production and maintenance of 2,500 aircraft that the Americans and their partners will theoretically order).
However, the programme is accompanied by delays and problems. In 2013, the interior papers of the Pentagon said: "The F-35 deficiencies make this fighter useless for combat or combat training [. . .] Any pilot who gets on an aircraft is in danger even before the conflict begins[. . . . . . . . . . . . . . A plane that can neither fight nor train pilots is of small use. Over the last 10 years, 850 problems have been identified and although any of them have been resolved, the 2020 study states that "the targets cannot be decently targeted, making their performance unacceptable to the authors of the report".
A year later, the F-35 became the first aircraft capable of shooting down. It wasn't a joke: a rocket fired by an aircraft exploded in it and forced the pilot to crash landing, luckily without injury. The interesting thing is that the F35 was named Lightning. But the F35 can't fly in a storm! Lightning can origin aircraft explosion, which is not the case for any another civilian or military aircraft that presently flies. We besides avoid flying in the rain due to the fact that the rain harm the stealth shell, which requires costly maintenance maneuvers after landing. . .
Why, then, did so many Western countries buy this plane erstwhile its flaws are so obvious? The answer is rather simple: they buy not an airplane, but an "American umbrella". The sale of a plane that is very crucial to Americans, as we will see, involves a certain number of emergency guarantees. The case became serious erstwhile a group of MARS military experts wrote: "F-35 has become a dangerous war device that submits European defence to American interests. next day it can become a tool that defeats NATO in confronting its strategical competitors".
The F-35 is so bad that it cannot seriously endanger the latest Russian or Chinese stealth aircraft specified as Su-57 or J-20. The simulation conducted by erstwhile officials of the Ministry of Defence of Australia – the country that bought the F-35! – shows that from the fleet 24 F-35 in the event of a collision with the Russian Su-27 would last only one, despite the aid of the 2 AWACS Boeings to steer them. Su-27 first went up in the air in 1977. He is so little capable than his successor, who is presently in the service of the Russian armed forces, Su-35 (of course not to mention Su-57). The individual liable for this survey openly claims that the F-35 is simply a "Ponzi pyramid". You gotta advertise as much as you can, sale as many customers as you can. Before it turns out your product is simply a fraud.
This may explain the various pressures that the United States exerted to sale this equipment to as many Western countries as possible. According to the MARS report, the F-35 had already completed part of its mission: he won the war with the European military industry. Germany, the British, Poles and Dutch have already purchased an American model alternatively of a European aircraft specified as Eurofighter Typhoon or French Rafale. Problem is, this choice could be NATO's actual Achilles heel.
In addition to F-35, however, economical analysis would be very informative. If Americans are incapable to change their position – although the U.S. Navy is seriously considering buying the old F-15 alternatively of the brand-new F-35 – it is due to the fact that they have invested besides much in this program. Like erstwhile LSDJ, we can't halt Ariane 6 due to the fact that we've spent besides much already. The same applies to the American task Orion, which was besides overtaken by Space X. akin reasoning explains why most Western countries are striving to make a atomic manufacture based on models far more dangerous than others.
But the point is, erstwhile you get on a train, it is very hard to get off. This is most likely the most crucial lesson from the F-35 for governments. From an aerial point of view, we can be glad that there is inactive a French exception in the form of a Rafale aircraft. Although Americans have long tried to prevent its sale, many another countries have considered it the most attractive aircraft on the marketplace today.
