No drones flying over the burnt hall on the Gdansk Reworking

The fire of the retention hall in Gdańsk Przepraka caused the request for a detailed inspection of the site. Therefore, the authorities – police – decided to temporarily ban drones from flying over the firestorm. It applies until 17 February 2025, but it is possible to extend it.

The flight ban over the burnt hall includes an area with a radius of 200 metres, with a centre at a point at 54°21’30′′N 18°40’52′′E. The restrictions introduced concern space from ground level to 150 metres. The prohibition does not apply only to drones utilized by state services and region managers.

Reasons for banning drones

The decision to exclude this airspace is crucial for the conduct of investigations and the work of experts. Unmanned aircraft belonging to private operators could disrupt service activities and hamper the collection of evidence.

This is simply a standard procedure utilized in akin cases where full control of the area under investigation is necessary.

Will the ban be extended?

The current restrictions apply until 17 February 2025, but the authorities do not exclude their extension. It all depends on the pace of investigative work and the request to further safe the scene. Drone operators should keep track of applicable service communications in order to avoid breach of existing restrictions.
