The shields of the East, the Baltic Defence Line, the combination of available deterrence and defence capabilities and European funds for defence are the main topics addressed by Deputy Minister Cezary Tomczyk in an interview with representatives of the Baltic States.
The meeting, held on 1 July this year in the VTC formula, was attended by: Deputy Minister of Defence of Lithuania Tomas Godliauskas, Undersecretary of State of Latvia – manager of Defence Policy Rolands Heninš and typical of the Defence Ministry of Estonia Kaimo Kuusk.
Representatives of defence departments of Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia focused on discussing the improvement of military capabilities essential to defend borders, stressing that there is simply a request for permanent cooperation between countries in implementing projects under the EU SAFE programme. This involves, inter alia, identifying needs and uncovering common areas that can be invested in the future from the EU budget. All Baltic States are focused on creating a multi-layered strategy of defence measures that will prevent hybrid attacks on EU countries, increase their military possible and deter possible aggressors.
In 2025, Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Baltic leaders sent a joint letter to the president of the European Council of António Costa and the president of the European Commission, Ursuli von der Leyen, which afraid the designation of the Baltic Defence Line and the Shield East as projects of common European interest.
