
The European Parliament's legal committee has adopted recommendations that Grzegorz Braun is to have immunity lifted. 23 of the 24 committee members active voted for the removal of legal protection.
On January 17, 2024, Grzegorz Braun lost immunity and the Sejm agreed to hold him accountable for 7 acts. The violations of law, described in the request of the Warsaw territory Attorney's Office, occurred between March 2022 and December 2023.
In March 2022 Braun attacked Łukasz Szumowski, then manager of the National Institute of Cardiology (a public officer) and erstwhile Minister of Health, during the "post-message intervention". This event will go to court if the politician loses immunity.
In January 2023, Braun damaged the Christmas tree in the territory Court building and destroyed the Christmas decorations of the Association of Polish Judges “Iustitia” and the Association of Judges “Themis”. There are inactive a fewer incidents on his list of wrongdoings.
What's next with Braun?
So far, Braun has avoided court and judgment, and in the meantime has been elected to the European Parliament, being under the umbrella of immunity. Moreover, he decided to run for presidential election in May 2025. In the same period his situation is to be resolved.
