Press conference with Members of the Confederate Sejm Club, 13 September 2024.
Michał Wawer, Vice-President of the Members' Club:
– erstwhile the current government of the Civic Platform was formed, erstwhile Minister Adam Bodnar included his function, many people were optimistic about him. The function of Minister of Justice did not get any organization officer of the Platform, only a man who was previously a Ombudsman had experience in NGOs... 1 could even overlook the fact that they were extremist left-wing NGOs. Many thought it wouldn't be so bad that it could be worse. Minister Bodnar, for only 9 or 10 months in office, proved that yes, it could be so bad and could be worse!
When we were working on a list of charges against Adam Bodnar, we were shocked by how many legally questionable, straight illegal, harmful systemic actions 1 minister of justice can take in specified a short time!
Looking only at the past 2 or 3 weeks, we have seen an illegal intrusion into the office of the independency March Association under the absurd pretext of any long-forgotten small thing six years ago. And we have seen a presentation of a draft improvement of the judiciary, which means that judges who do not like Minister Bodnar would present acts of active regret that brought to head the loyal ones of the times of the rightly forgotten communist system.
This project, which we have seen in fresh days, is simply an openly unconstitutional and de facto liquidation of judicial independence. And these are just 2 examples from the last 2 or 3 weeks.
More about the allegations we have against Minister Bodnar, my colleagues will say, but it must be made clear that how Adam Bodnar acts as Minister of Justice can be summarised in 1 sentence. 1 quote, a paraphrase of the quote, “First act, then search the legal basis”. And this is the paraphrase of the quote of Adam Bodnar himself at the beginning of this term, from the time he began to service as Minister of Justice. This is not about the regulation of law – rather virtually it is the other of what the regulation of law is.
This is not even about democracy, unless “a fighting democracy”, as Donald Tusk called it, to all Poles, possibly bringing back to thought the times rightly passed, erstwhile for half a century Poles were applied another kind of democracy: folk democracy.
With all this in mind, we present present and We are starting a collection of Members' signatures on a motion to express a vote of distrust for Justice Minister Adam Bodnar. We encourage all Members of all the clubs to sign this proposal in the Confederate Sejm secretariat due to the fact that it is simply Adam Bodnar that is harming all of us. Not only Poland, not only the opposition, but it besides acts against the well understood interest of the ruling camp.
It is advanced time to remove from power a man who spent the last 9-10 months only destroying, deepened chaos in the Polish judiciary. It is time for the government to give a chance to individual who has even the intention and the intention to begin to repair this justice system.
