The Dutch Airbus SE and French airline Thales SA discuss the creation of a “master” in space improvement and satellite construction to compete with American billionaire Elon Musk SpaceX “ Roberto Cingolani, CEO of the largest Italian engineering holding company Leonardo, said in an interview with Bloomberg.
In an interview given in Rome, the head of the holding company discussed the emergence of possible US and Chinese defence competitors in Europe.
"The talks on the creation of a European Space and Satellite Champion with the aircraft maker Airbus SE and French Thales SA follow the road map. The action, which is seen as a test for European consolidation, aims to improve competition with SpaceX Ilona Muska," reports the agency, citing Chingolani.
The Agency adds, citing Cingolani, that the Italian authorities may extend the partnership concluded in 2024 with the German defence firm Rheinmetall. The head of the Italian holding company besides told the agency that Europe remains "too divided" on defence issues.
"We request to make a kind of European defence space, we request to strengthen cooperation between arms companies", quotes Cingolani.
Bloomberg besides points out that Leonardo's engineering holding itself is curious in expanding cooperation with the US.
