Baltic alliance with Orka in the background

There is no safe Baltic without a Polish-Swedish alliance – said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz after signing with Pål Jonson, Minister of Defence of Sweden, cooperation agreement between both countries under the “Orka” programme. It was the submarines from Sweden that were selected as the best proposal for the Polish Army.

Choice of partner In the acquisition program, fresh submarines collapsed in late November. “This is not just a acquisition of submarines,” said Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. “We are building a fresh safety architecture in the Baltic together with Sweden. He added that the choice of Sweden is not simply the choice of the country that will supply the equipment, but, as he put it, "this is the choice of a friend." – The anticipation of common usage of ports, joint training, these are large safety guarantees – he mentioned the benefits of strengthening bilateral cooperation. “The Swedish Government, with the engagement of the Polish arms industry, provides for investments in Polish industry, in Polish shipyards, but besides for the search and usage of Polish equipment solutions for the Swedish Armed Forces”, added Deputy Prime Minister Kosiniak-Kamish.

“We have signed a cooperation agreement, but it is more than a trade agreement,” said Pål Jonson, Minister of Defence of Sweden. He pointed out that it was a commitment between allies and friends to closer political, military and industrial cooperation. As the Swedish politician stressed, his country is well aware that Poland is the subject of hybrid attacks from Russia. Sweden besides has the same view of Moscow's aggressive actions. “We stand side by side with you in these dangerous times,” Jonson added.

“There is no safe Baltic without the Polish-Swedish alliance,” Kosiniak-Kamish said. As he added, in partnership and in alliance we are able to face challenges. He besides pointed out that the signed paper was more than a contract for another military equipment. “It is simply a strategical agreement for the safety of Poland and Sweden, the east flank of NATO and the Baltic Sea,” stressed the head of the Polish MON.
