As many as 55 teams from around the planet competed in the prestigious Commandant’s Cup War Games tournament. 12 double teams qualified for the Washington final, including a representation from the Academy of Land Forces. The Polish squad was the only squad in the finals to be made up of subjects, the remaining 11 teams were officer teams. Poles took 3rd place.

Long way to the podium

Representatives of the War Analysis technological Circle, who were students of the 3rd year of officer's studies, faced a tournament requiring skill in conducting a tactical and operational level war game. During their rivalry, they demonstrated cognition of the tasks, structures and capabilities of units from battalion level to division, taking into account components of the air and naval forces. Multiple they had to make operational decisions on the basis of only intuition and limited data, they stood up to the ground with experienced, repeatedly decorated officers of the U.S. elite Marine Corps, well-versed with the reality of war games," said Captain Łukasz Wójciak, head of the Department of Territorial Defence. She points out that it was a large honour for Poles to get to the final in Washington. They proved superior to the teams from Germany, Australia, Belgium, Spain and Italy.

– Eliminations took place, among others, during the polygon group, and the subcholers played parties after classes, under field conditions, frequently at night. After arriving in the United States, they faced another challenge – the request to adapt to another time zone, which differs by six hours. The challenges in the tournament lasted more than 8 hours each day and required constant focus, analyzing opponents' movements and making complex decisions. Nevertheless, the sufferers showed exceptional intellectual resilience and professionalism. Their attitude was not only observed by our team, but besides by participants and observers from the full marine community. Due to the prestige of the event – the tournament was held in an open exhibition space, in parallel with the military equipment fair Modern Day Marine – the actions of Poles were of large interest – says Captain Wójciak.
