They are next to armored troops and mechanized the fastest increasing kind of Polish land troops. In fresh years, fresh units have been created, at the same time intensive modernisation of existing equipment and the implementation of fresh weapons. Polish artillery, due to it, has its vacation today!

Armatohaubics, mortars, rocket launchers with tremendous force and fire range... There are fewer types of troops that can have a wide impact on the enemy, supporting both offensive and defensive operations. It is no wonder that Napoleon’s word for “Queen of the conflict Fields” is inactive attached to the artillery.

Polish rocket and artillery troops (WRiA) are present the second – after armored and mechanized – in terms of the number of types of land troops. They are now part 1st Artillery Brigade of Eel, 5th Regiment of Artillery in Sulechów, 23rd Regiment of Artillery in Bolesławec, 18th Regiment of Artillery in Nowa Dęba and 14th Regiment of Anti-tank Artillery in Suwałki. The latest unit is formed in 2023 1st Rocket Brigade from Toruń. Its primary weapons are purchased in the United States with multi-guided HIMARS rocket launchers, which in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland received the code name lobster-A (Buyed from Koreans K239 Chunmoo launchers have the designation lobster-K).

As the Commander of the 1st Rocket Brigade, Colonel Marek Wasielewski, explains, the creation of this unit is part of the Natovian concept of deterrence. And thanks to its fresh weaponry, the strength of Polish rocket and artillery troops increased significantly. “The Armed Forces of the Republic must have the ability to fire the enemy in the depths of the operational, deep rocket strikes,” said Colonel Wasielewski.

At the end of November 1st Rocket Squadron 1 BR (the first of the 4 to be covered by the brigade) passed to the Toruń Police Station certification, thus confirming its readiness to act.

The future? Power and precision!

On how deep the transformation is presently undergoing by rocket troops and artillery, yesterday was discussed at the Rocket and Artillery Training Centre in Toruń during the three-day global conference "Future Artillery". Among the topics discussed during the war were, among others, the conclusions of the war in Ukraine and the challenges facing artillerymen in the coming years. “We build and modernise interoperability with our NATO friends. We have improved fire management systems, which are supported by various available tools – commented on the main topics of the gathering by Colonel Andrzej Kubusz, Head of the Board of Rocket Forces and Artillery Inspectorate of the General Command of the Armed Forces that organized the conference. The colonel emphasized that the war in Ukraine indicated various fields on which the military should place emphasis: digitisation, improvement of drones and artillery, which played a major function during the first days of fighting in the east. According to experts, the conflict has besides verified many opinions calling into question the usefulness of classical weapons systems in the modern battlefield. The fear of the Russians present is conveyed to Ukraine by the western states' HIMARS and MLRS rocket launchers and 155 mm self-propelled barrels, including Polish Crabs.

In addition to discussion panels, during which the concept of developing fire support capabilities (with emphasis on artillery) of territorial defence troops was discussed, participants besides had the chance to familiarize themselves with the latest proposals of arms companies specialising in artillery equipment.

Because, according to Polish tradition, the patron saint of artillerymen, like miners, is Saint Barbara, the rocket troops and artillery celebrate on the day of her names, which is December 4. In Toruń, where the Centre for Artillery and Armoury Training, the alma mater of artillery, has already begun on 3 December evening.

An appeal was held in front of the Polish Artillery Memorial, in which local parliamentarians and local government authorities took part in addition to representatives of the Polish Armed Forces – the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, the General Command of the Polish Armed Forces, the Operations Command of the Polish Armed Forces and the Inspectorate of Armed Forces.
