Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held another telephone call present – 3rd since the inauguration of the current US President's term. The main subject was the war in Ukraine and the anticipation of ceasefire. The president of Russia stands by his imagination of the terms of the truce, the leader of the United States hopes to make a deal with him.
Commenting on the conversation with Trump, the Russian president called her “very helpful”. He assured that Russia was "ready to work with Ukraine on a memorandum on future peace negotiations". Putin stated that Kiev and Moscow should scope a compromise that will respond to both sides. He besides stressed that a ceasefire is possible if "the primary causes of the conflict" are eliminated. "In general, we are on track," he concluded.
Although there are no binding declarations behind these words, Donald Trump felt that “the speech and spirit of the conversation were perfect.” In his entry on his social media, he announced that "Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations on the ceasefire and, more importantly, end the war". “ Russia wants to trade on a large scale with the United States after the end of this “catastrophic bloodshed, ” and I agree. There is simply a large chance for Russia to make immense amounts of jobs and wealth. Her possible is unlimited. Similarly, Ukraine can be a large beneficiary of trade in the process of rebuilding its country" (original spelling – ed.).
“Weary and frustrated” Trump
Trump and Putin had a conversation after unsuccessful peace negotiations in Istanbul. On 16 May in the Turkish capital – for the first time in 3 years – happened direct gathering of the Russian and Ukrainian delegations. After only 2 hours, the negotiations were discontinued without crucial findings. This was due to the Russians, who agreed to ceasefire made demands unfulfilled. Russia, in exchange for stopping fire, would like restrictions on military aid for Kiev, the resignation of Ukraine from its aspirations to NATO membership and the surrender of 4 Ukrainian circuits without a fight. At the same time, its representatives expressed their willingness to proceed negotiations.
Washington wasn't annoyed by the way things turned out. "We don't want promises anymore, we want specifics," said Trump-Putin Vice president of the USA J.D. Vance just before the telephone call. The politician announced that Trump would ask Putin a circumstantial question: ‘Are you serious about this?’. In turn, White home press secretary Karoline Leavitt told journalists that the American leader "is tired and frustrated by both sides of the conflict". Trump himself stated in an interview with Fox News that only a conversation between him and Putin could lead to a breakthrough, expressing his hope that he would make a deal with the Russian president. However, he pointed out that if they failed to scope an agreement, he would impose sanctions on Russia.
“Let the trial begin!”
Meanwhile, Putin is to believe that his troops by the end of the year will be able to break the defensive positions of Ukrainian forces and take full control of the Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporosian circuits, to which Russia claims itself. These are the reasons for the Kremlin's ‘ stiffening’, given by Moscow sources of Bloomberg. According to both sides' communications, Putin did not offer Trump any crucial concessions in his telephone conversation. The question remains whether the optimism of the American president is real, or is it just a good face for a bad game. Anyway, so far, Washington's sharper course towards Moscow is out of the question.
“The negotiations between Russia and Ukraine will begin immediately,” Trump wrote. "I informed the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenski, president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, president of France Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz and president of Finland Alexander Stubb while talking to me, right after talking to president Putin. The Vatican, represented by the Pope, stated that he would be very curious in organising negotiations. Let the trial begin!”, reads the entry on the fact Social platform.
