FORT WORTH- American Airlines (AA) is adding new domestic destinations to strengthen its U.S. route network, including Sun Valley, Idaho (SUN), and Santa Maria, California (SMX), later this year. These additions will enhance access to premier outdoor locations, especially ahead of the winter travel season.

New flights will also link Chicago (ORD), Phoenix (PHX), Los Angeles (LAX), and other key cities to destinations such as Fort Myers, Florida (RSW); Missoula, Montana (MSO); and Santa Fe, New Mexico (SAF), all timed for the peak holiday period.

American Airlines Two New Destinations

American Airlines continues to invest in seasonal and year-round service to destinations known for skiing, hiking, and coastal getaways.

From December 18, American will operate direct flights to Sun Valley, Idaho (SUN) from both Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX), connecting over 150 U.S. cities to the snow-covered peaks of Idaho. These dual-class aircraft will cater to winter travelers seeking premium comfort and direct access to ski resorts.

To support winter sports tourism further, Charlotte (CLT) will connect to Aspen, Colorado (ASE), expanding options in the Rocky Mountains.

American will also become the sole carrier offering nonstop winter service between Chicago (ORD) and Missoula, Montana (MSO)—a gateway to Montana’s scenic wilderness and slopes.

In total, American will operate over 70 daily flights this winter to popular snow destinations across the western U.S., reinforcing its position as a top airline for seasonal leisure travel.

New Western U.S. Routes Enhance Regional Access

Expanding in the Southwest, American Airlines will offer new routes to Santa Fe, New Mexico (SAF) from Chicago (ORD) and Los Angeles (LAX), adding to its existing service from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Phoenix (PHX).

SAF serves as a cultural and winter activity hub, located near Taos Ski Valley and national monuments.

Service to Santa Maria, California (SMX) will begin October 15 with two daily flights from Phoenix (PHX). American will be the only global network carrier serving this Central Coast city, offering unique access to coastal scenery, regional barbecue, and wine country.

Sun and Sand Escapes Complement Winter Network

Balancing the cold-weather destinations, American is expanding warm-weather service with seasonal flights between Phoenix (PHX) and Fort Myers, Florida (RSW) during the winter holiday window. RSW provides easy access to Gulf Coast beaches, seafood, and outdoor recreation.

Additionally, American is growing its international footprint this winter. Key highlights include:

  • Chicago (ORD) to Honolulu, Hawaii (HNL)
  • Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) to Kona, Hawaii (KOA)
  • Los Angeles (LAX) to Brisbane, Australia (BNE)
  • Four daily flights between Miami (MIA) and Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE)

A milestone expansion is American’s first-ever service to Puerto Escondido, Mexico (PXM) and four new routes to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (PUJ)—boosting its unmatched connectivity to Latin America and the Caribbean.
