The AK and the authorities of the Polish Underground State planned to uncover themselves and appear to the Polish National Liberation Committee (depending on Stalin's will) as the host, as the only legal power. The uprising designed virtually for respective days did not fall until October 3, after the murderous 63 days of fighting. About 20,000 AK soldiers were killed and between 150,000 and 180,000 civilians were killed. Following the surrender of Warsaw by Adolf Hitler's decision, the building was destroyed after the building.
So many facts. However, let us think – and fans of counterfactual stories from year to year arrive – what would have happened if the AK hadn't decided on an armed rally. Opponents of the decision to emergence up state that this script would be much better (no civilian casualties, surviving city along with its priceless monuments). But with an alternate scenario, would a communicative without an uprising be better? Consider, knowing all the historical variables that occurred before the ferocious hr of “W”, which could happen. Can you imagine a worse scenario? Let's let the past of magic guide.
Here the Warsaw Uprising does not explode, the AK office listens to the arguments of the colonel. Jan Bokschanin and Chief of Intelligence Colonel Kazimierz Irank-Osmecki and does not give orders for the attack. Political arguments for the fight are serious, due to the fact that otherwise there will be a communist quasi-government headed by Edward Osóbka-Morawski (although in fact Wanda Vasilewska, the grey eminence of PKWN, the trusted Stalin, and the “enkavudzist” Stanisław Radkiewicz were attracted for all the strings). Also, the assassination of Hitler in the Wolfshawn by Claus von Stauffenberg was not considered. All the more so, after July 22nd, intelligence reports arrive to the Main Command that Hitler miraculously survived and Wehrmacht will defend the capital. The decisive information would be military facts. On July 15, 1944, a choice Pancerno-Spadorzeczowa “Hermann Göring” unit was launched from Italy to Warsaw. In real history, this division entered the fighting immediately in the suburb and stopped the attacks of the russian 2nd Armoured Army in the area of Minsk Mazowiecki and Volomina. On July 31, Iranek-Osmecki failed to notify Bora-Komorowski erstwhile he made a decision about the outbreak.
In the capital, there are fights – he calls to them, among others, the Hurrapatriotic radio station of Tadeusz Kościuszko led by Zofia Dzierżyńska, belonging to the communist Union of Polish Patriots. On the walls of Warsaw appears (as it happened on 29 July 1944) a call signed by self-appointed Gen. Julian Skokowski, leader of the Polish People's Army, whose intelligence AK considered to be a russian agent. In response, it was falsely announced that "Bór" and the command of the underground fled Warsaw, and he – Skokowski – takes over the power over all conspiracy organizations and manages the mobilisation to fight the occupier. It is so highly real in this script that the “mini-rise” is not carried out by the AK (we besides presume that in characterological terms Gen. Bór-Komorowski is, however, immune to the force of Gen. Okulicki), only the People's Army to a company with the Red Army. In fact, Warsaw is “released” by red-armists, later expanding the propagandaly heroic features of a fistful of guerrillas under the leadership of Skokowski and accompanied by Zenon Kliszka and Władysław Gomulka. Let us besides point out that Germany planned to make Warsaw a fortress. Therefore, the military action launched by AL and the Soviets could, as in reality, destruct the city.
However, specified a situation would make communist cosmology repel the later Akov legend known to us from Wajda's "Canal" and Morgenstern's "Columbs". It could even be more effective to accuse her of “a stand with a rifle.” In this logic, it is not Roman Bratny, but Mieczysław Moczar's "Fighting Colors" would be in the canon of school readings. The “Columbos” would be marginalized, and the “Stones to the Rim” by Alexander Kamiński would be known only to a narrow group of literary scholars. In People's Poland, it would be much easier to accept society for the installed "red" system. On specified a wave of “survived” as a consequence of political turmoil Krzysztof Kamil Baczyński, a “golden child” of Polish poetry, could join... PPR. Would he not, in specified a reality, compose a poem commending Stalin?
