On June 4, 1989, the first partially free parliamentary elections were held, ending with a large triumph for "Solidarity". Their consequences were the fall of communism and political changes in the full russian bloc. - We had to destruct the old order to make a fresh order (...) the situation was safer then than now - said the erstwhile leader of NSZZ "Solidarity" and erstwhile president Lech Wałęsa during the celebrations organized in the Gdańsk Shipyard.
