In an interview with tv Republic, the erstwhile head of the Justice Ministry confirmed his presence in the U.S. capital. As he pointed out, 1 of the main objectives of his political activity in the United States is to influence the Polish environment.
Ziobro besides referred to the actions of the authorities towards tv Republic and its editor-in-chief Tomasz Sakiewicz. According to him, the actions aimed at the station are to be an effort to hit the media critical of the current power.
They don't have Ziebra, they want to attack editor Sakiewicz. This is simply a image of the helplessness, the powerlessness of this power that wants to direct its assault on journalists, the media said Ziobro.
The politician revealed that tv Republic had already proposed to him respective times as commentator, but he rejected these proposals during his stay in Budapest. As he explained, only going to the United States led him to change his mind. He stressed that the station enjoyed large popularity among the Polish people in the US and had a crucial impact on its environment, and so considered the combination of political activities and the function of commentator to be justified.
Ziobro was besides asked to call on Tomasz Sakiewicz by the National Prosecutor's Office. Investigators want to find the circumstances of the beginning of cooperation between the erstwhile minister and the Republic of tv and see if there has been a crime of involvement. The erstwhile minister estimated that these actions were to divert attention from the problems and unfulfilled promises of the Donald Tusk government.
Unclear communication with the US embassy
On Tuesday, a spokesperson for the Ministry of abroad Affairs Maciej Wewiór reported that the Ministry of Diplomacy sent a note to the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw asking for clarification of the legal basis and actual entry of Ziobra into the United States. The paper was sent on April 15 from the cabinet of the Vice-President of the Ministry of abroad Affairs Robert Kubecki, responsible, among others, for relations with the US, and transferred to the State Department via the American embassy.
According to ‘Gazeta Wyborcza’, the consequence from the American side was not received. The diary besides claims that the information about the arrival of Ziobra in the US on 9 May was a large surprise for the Polish Ministry of abroad Affairs and the prosecution.
According to erstwhile reports, the U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Tom Rose was to supply abroad Minister Radosław Sikorski, that he was opposed to the stay of Ziobra and his erstwhile deputy Marcin Romanowski in the United States, and was aware of the possible political consequences of their arrival.
Unofficially, representatives of Polish diplomacy were to comment very critically on the full situation. According to the “Gazeta Wyborcza” information, there are opinions in the ministry that the substance may affect Polish-American relations, and any officials wonder if the US will be prepared to hazard diplomatic tensions in defence of political allies.
