Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenski announced that he expected Russia to agree to a complete and permanent ceasefire in the war against his state from Monday. He besides declared that on Thursday he would personally wait for Russia's leader Vladimir Putin in Turkey.
"We anticipate a full and lasting ceasefire from next day to supply the essential basis for diplomacy. There's no point in prolonging the killing. Thursday I'll be waiting for Putin in Turkey. Personally. I hope that this time the Russians will not look for reasons why they cannot (participate in talks)" wrote Zelenski on Sunday on social networks.
On Saturday, Ukrainian, Polish, French, German and British leaders called on Russia to unconditionally adopt a 30-day ceasefire, threatening to impose sanctions on Moscow. Putin responded by counter-proposing direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine on Thursday in Turkey.
