
It was foreseeable that for Karol Nawrocki – erstwhile president of the Institute of National Memory and elected president of the elect – the issue of historical accounts with Ukraine could be very important. This was felt erstwhile the presidential election winner responded to the congratulations of president Volodymyr Zelenski. Nawrocki wrote about the “common future” between Ukraine and Poland, but besides the regulation of “an anxious past”.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenski congratulated Karol Nawrock on winning the election.
"Congratulations to Charles Nawrock on his election in the presidential election. Poland, which protects the strength of its national spirit and belief in justice, was and remains the foundation of regional and European safety and a strong voice in defence of the freedom and dignity of all nation," wrote the leader of Ukraine in a post on platform X.
"By strengthening each another on our continent, we give Europe more strength in global competition and bring about real and lasting peace. I anticipate further fruitful cooperation with Poland and personally with president Nawrocki" – added Zelenski.
Karol Nawrocki referred to the entry, who thanked for the congratulations and besides expressed hope for a fruitful cooperation between Poland and Ukraine. Reading between the lines, however, 1 can anticipate that this cooperation will not be unconditional – not for Ukraine.
"I look forward to continuing our countries' partnership, based on common respect and understanding. I believe that this requires not only good dialogue, but besides solutions to outstanding historical problems," Nawrocki stressed.
"Poland was Ukraine's strongest supporter in the fight against Russian aggression, no another nation understands this threat better than we do, and I hope that we will proceed to work together for the common good to regulate the troubled past and to build a safe future together," added the president-elect, again referring to historical issues.
