The sanctions will strike many
The sanctions were imposed by Decree No 267/2025 of the president of Ukraine on 1 May and include, among others, the removal of state distinctions, the freezing of assets, the ban on commercial transactions, restrictions on transit, flights and transport across the territory of Ukraine, as well as the ban on the transfer of capital abroad for Alexi Arestowycz. Part of the restrictions is unlimited, others apply for 10 years. The sanctions besides included Kostyantyn Bondarenka and blogger Myroslav Oleshka.
Additionally, 36 legal entities, including companies from occupied areas and companies registered abroad, including Switzerland and Singapore, were affected by restrictions. The sanctions are the consequence of a decision of the National safety and Defence Council, issued on the basis of a advice of the safety Service of Ukraine.
The sanctions will hit many people, and among those who will definitely feel them there are Myroslav Oleshko. He is simply a blogger who openly encouraged Ukrainians to flee the country. Oleshko was to leave Ukraine eventually, avoiding being drafted into the army, thanks to false documents.
What did Arestovych do?
Alexi Arestowych is simply a erstwhile advisor to president Zelenski. He left his post in January 2023 after a controversial message in which he suggested that the Ukrainian air defence strategy could be liable for the demolition of the residential building in Dniepore. Although Ukrainian armed forces powerfully denied this version, Arestowych's message was utilized by Russian propaganda.
After his resignation, Arestowycz began openly criticizing Zelenski's policy. He publically advocated the request for negotiations with the Russian Federation. In September 2023, Arestowicz, for example, stated:
Have you noticed that all government in Ukraine starts differently, but always ends in the same way: political suicide? This is due to the fact that all these people in power are by accident. Having received an historical opportunity, the power does not know how to take advantage of it, gets tired of each another and starts to act the only instinct they have left: the desire to die.
In November 2023 the police informed of the initiation of criminal proceedings against him. After leaving office, he left Ukraine and stayed in Vienna, Warsaw and fresh York, among others. Currently, according to reports from Ukrainian media, he is presently in fresh York.
