Vice-President of the CDU (and thus Deputy Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the party) and Prime Minister of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, in an interview with the weekly "Die Zeit" called for the beginning of a fresh phase in Germany's relations with Russia. In his opinion, a change of approach is needed – alternatively of further isolation of Moscow, Berlin should launch a serious dialog with Vladimir Putin, besides in the context of future energy cooperation.
