On Sunday evening, the global Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) was notified of an incidental related to a drone detonation in the Zaporoska Atomic Power Plant area, which is under Russian control.

The IAEA received reports of an detonation straight from the power plant board, which is subject to the Russian administration. The attack took place on Sunday and aimed at hitting the dome of the sixth power block. In view of the fact that the plant is controlled by the Russian Federation, it should be concluded that this was done by the Ukrainian side. However, in its communication, the IAEA does not state a guilty attack.

“The harm in Block 6 did not endanger atomic safety, but it is simply a major incidental that may undermine the integrity of the reactor safety system,” the IAEA reported. 1 attack victim was besides reported.

IAEA experts confirmed physical impact of drone attacks at ZNPP today, including at 1 of its 6 reactions.

The General manager of the Agency, Rafael Grossi, without pointing to circumstantial perpetrators expressed concern at the explosion, which was besides noted by IAEA observers. He called for refraining from activities that could endanger the safety of the power plant. Grossi stressed that specified irresponsible attacks importantly increase the hazard of major atomic accidents.

He noted that this was the first specified incidental since November 2022. In addition, he stressed that no entity derives either military or political benefits from atomic attacks.

We remind you that Zaporowska atomic Power Plant is presently under the control of the Russian Federation, which would surely not attack its critical infrastructure itself.
