The European Road Safety Day is on 6 May. We are a leader among countries in Europe that improve road conditions. We constantly invest in the network of national roads and infrastructure to guarantee the safety of all Poles. Our precedence is to improve visibility in pedestrian crossings. We effectively defend road users and educate citizens. In 8 years, we've reduced the number of fatal road accidents by 1/3. Additionally, as of 2015, the number of injured in road accidents has fallen from 40,000 to nearly 25 1000 people in 2022.

– We are 1 of the most effective road safety drivers in Europe in fresh years. This is simply a reason to be proud," said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Olecek.

Investments for road safety

Since 2015 we have been implementing investments to further strengthen the safety of all road users. We introduced, among others:

  • National Road Construction Programme – since 2015 we have put PLN 75 billion of roads into traffic,
  • The Government Road improvement Fund – 80% of us are financing the construction, reconstruction and modernisation of local roads – the value of funds for this intent is about PLN 13 billion.

"Today we are celebrating the European Road Safety Day. I have deliberately said “we are celebrating” and not “we are celebrating” due to the fact that we could celebrate erstwhile at least those most tragic accidents of traffic that end in death would bring us to zero. As we know, this is not the case yet, although we can say about a crucial improvement in road safety," said the Prime Minister.

Effective fight against road pirates

Excessive velocity is inactive 1 of the main causes of dangerous events on Polish roads. This is besides why we have introduced changes to the Traffic Code, specified as:

  • increase pedestrian protection in transitions,
  • harmonisation of permissible vehicle velocity in the built-up area,
  • introduction of the work to keep a safe distance between vehicles on motorways and expressways,
  • increase in fines and punishment points for the most serious offences.

Less accidents on Polish roads

Legal solutions are effective. We are the leader in improving road safety in Europe. We have over 15,000 less injured people in accidents a year. In 2015, it was as many as 40,000 injured people, and in 2022 the number of injured people fell to nearly 25 thousand. Additionally, the number of victims on Polish roads fell. We reduced the number of fatal road accidents – last year to 1896, i.e. by more than 1/3. The number of accidents alone decreased from 32,967 in 2015 to 21,322 in 2022. The number of pedestrians injured 8 years ago was over 8,000, and last year 4 367. There has been a crucial decline in fatal pedestrian crossing accidents to 460 people last year, out of 915 people in 2015.

– This statistic most likely doesn't say much – let's imagine that this is any thousands of families in Poland, tens of thousands of families in Poland, who have not experienced tragedy: the disability of the nearest individual or the death of the nearest individual – emphasized the head of the Polish government.

Redevelopment of 5 pedestrian crossings in Oleck

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki visited Olecko on the day of the European Road Traffic Safety Day, where 5 pedestrian crossings at Freedom Square were rebuilt thanks to the Government Road improvement Fund. The modernization was completed in January 2023 and its full cost was PLN 313,912. Government backing is simply a larger part, due to the fact that as much as PLN 214 801.92. Investments under government programmes are made possible by sealing the state budget.

– Hundreds, thousands of roundabouts, pedestrian crossings – safe pedestrian crossings with slow-downs, specified as in Oleck – these are traffic lights, these are the various investments across the country that we conduct. Multibillion-dollar investments to increase road safety. They're not just words. They're not just numbers. They're not just statistics. These are besides our actions, investments that turn into facts across Poland, into facts that defend the lives of people. It didn't come from anything. It besides came from immense investments, and these investments in turn came from a sealed budget," said Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
