Scandalous Event
Poland, expressed by Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and spokesperson for the government of Adam Szpiecka, demands a strong UEFA reaction on the false banner posted by Maccabi Haifa fans during a match against Rakow Częstochowa. The banner said: “Murderers since 1939” referring to Poles. However, Baner was not the only subject of controversy – sports writer Łukasz Ciona, who was present at the match, reported that announcer Maccabi insulted Poles, calling them Nazis.
The Israeli embassy in Poland besides presented its position on this issue, publishing a communication on platform X:
Disgusting behaviour of any Maccabi Haifa fans during a match against Rakowa Częstochowa. For specified words and deeds, neither side has area at the stadium nor anywhere else. Never! These shameful incidents do not reflect the spirit of most Israeli supporters.
The participation of Israeli clubs in European competitions is presently causing considerable controversy over ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. The escalation of the conflict following the Hamas attack in October 2023 caused the deaths of more than 60,000 Palestinians. UNICEF data shows that there are over 18,000 children among the victims, and global humanitarian organisations condemn the actions of the Israeli army.

Some Polish parliamentarians, specified as Sebastian Kaleta from the Law and Justice Service, have pointed out the serious inconsistencies in the embassy's statement. They pointed out that 1 of the parties behaved in a shameful way, publically insulting Poles as a nation, and the content of the entry, despite the declared distance, was bleaching and evasive. The deficiency of consequence from the abroad Minister was besides criticised.
President Karol Nawrocki, who wrote in the social media, besides referred to the situation:
The scandalous banner displayed by Maccabi Hajfa fans offends the memory of Polish citizens-victims of planet War II, among which were 3 million Jews. Stupidity that no words explain.
