XX Jubilee global Promethean Conference on Imperialism and Colonialism in Sovietological Research

On 24-25 October 2024, the 20th Jubilee global Promethean Conference entitled "Imperialism and Colonialism in Sovietological Research" was held. The event took place in Warsaw, organized by the University of Warsaw's east European Studies and the editorial of the technological diary "New Prometheus".

The topics of the conference included issues of imperialism and colonialism in sovietological studies, taking into account the specificities of east European and post-Soviet, as well as their impact on contemporary geopolitical and social challenges.

The conference began with the Holy Mass in the intention of the deceased activists of the Promethean Movement in the Church of St. Visits. The participants were then officially welcomed by Dr. Jan Malicki, manager of the east European Studies of the University of Warsaw. beginning lecture entitled "The laboratory of neo-imperialism: Adam Ulam on the destiny of East-Central Europe" was given by Dr. Sławomir Łukasiewicz, Prof. KUL.

During the two-day event there were 8 thematic panels and a closing session devoted to the inauguration of the Academic Year in the Warsaw University of east Europe. Among the presented topics were:

  • Sovetological and Polonological Studies: comparison of russian works conducted in Poland with investigation on Poland in the russian Union of the interwar period.
  • Russian imperialism and political activity: discussion on the importance of Russian imperialism and influence on east Europe's policy, as well as the function of Józef Piłsudski and Roman Knoll.
  • National and identity policy: investigation into the Bolshevik national, linguistic policy and their impact on the identity and culture of peoples specified as Belarusians, Ukrainians and Azerbaijanis.
  • The Promethean Movement and the Anti-Imperialist Fight: peculiar attention has been paid to the figures of the Promethean movement, specified as Mehmed Emin Resulzade, his activities for the rights of oppressed nations, as well as criticism of russian imperialism.

The conference was distinguished by lectures by distinguished scientists and specialists, and at the very end prof. Adam Daniel Rotfeld (b. Minister of abroad Affairs of the Republic of Poland) presented "The Imperial roots of the Russian strategy".

In the closing session of the conference, the inauguration took place noduring the academic year of the University of east Europe, during which the fresh issue of the magazine “New Prometheus” was presented. The participants could besides visit the specially prepared exhibition “United in Idea: Prometeists in Interwar Poland” on the occasion of the 140th anniversary of Mehmed Emin Resulzade's birth.

This year's jubilee edition of the Promethean Conference provided an highly valuable forum for exchanging ideas and experiences in the field of investigation on imperialism and colonialism in the east European context and the influence of sovietism on knowing contemporary geopolitical and social problems.
