Xiaomi: Smartphone maker enters the marketplace for electrical cars

A maker of world-famous smartphones (and more) Xiaomi decided to enter the electrical car market. The decisions were made in 2021 and already on April 1, 2024 sales of XiaoMi SU7 cars began..

On 29 March this year, the founder and CEO of XiaoMi Mr Lei Jun (chin. 雷军) during a solemn presentation, for 2 hours described the advantages and competitive advantages of his first electrical car. He had additional motivation to do so, as among the honorary guests were presidents of competitive private automotive companies specified as Nio, Xpeng and Li Auto.

XiaoMi SU7's debut was highly successful.

Within 24 hours of the launch of the car, 88,898 orders were received for SU7 placed in 59 stores in 29 cities as well as via the Internet. This is simply a number corresponding to almost the full production of this year. Many XiaoMi salesrooms featured real crowds watching.

Each possible buyer had to pay a deposit of RMB 5000 (approx. PLN 2735). SU7 is presently installed by the state-owned Beijing Automotive manufacture Holding Co. (BAIC, chin. 北京汽车工业控股有限责任公司) and this will proceed until XiaoMi's own car mill has full production power. According to assumptions, this will take place in 2025. The first cars ordered on March 29 will be delivered to customers at the end of April.

On the day of launch, customers could order a XiaoMi SU7 car in Standard, Pro or Max versions. These versions disagree in battery capacity and range, but besides in the drive strategy and advanced driver support systems (ADAS). Standard and Pro have rear-wheel drive, while Max is simply a competitive version with all wheels and 2 engines.

Xiaomi SU7 Standard

  • LFP (CATL) battery with a capacity of 94.3 kWh
  • RWD, 220 kW (295 hp), torque 400 Nm, single engine
  • Xiaomi Pilot Pro ADAS
  • Price: 245 900 RMB (approx. 134 474 PLN)

Xiaomi SU7 Max

  • Range: 800 km
  • NMC (CATL) battery capacity 101 kWh
  • AWD, power 495 kW (663 hp), torque 838 Nm, double engine
  • Xiaomi Pilot Max ADAS
  • Acceleration 0-100 km/h in 2.78 s, maximum velocity 265 km/h
  • Price: 299 900 RMB (approx. 163 946 PLN)

During the presentation, president XiaoMi said that the model price standard (215 900) was determined so that SU7 could compete with the basic Model 3 Tesla. This car costs 245 900 RMB about 134,432 PLN in China), has a scope of 606 km, with a CATL 60 kWh battery.

Prices of SU7 correspond to electrical car prices of Chinese manufacturers, models specified as BYD Seal, BYD Han, Xpeng P7i, Nio ET5.

For example, Zeekr 007 (produced by Geely) offers akin parameters like XiaoMi SU7), in the basic model, sold for 209 900 RMB (approx. PLN 114,732), is offered with a higher power engine, due to the fact that 310 kW (415 hp), at 220 kW XiaoMi, has a scope of 688 km, thanks to a battery of 75.6 kW capacity and an engine.

What will be the destiny of XiaoMi at the roar? It'll show you time. The premiere belongs to successful, especially in the context of strengthening the brand image of the company, which was founded only 14 years ago.
