On summertime holidays, I invitation you to Davos for a fewer days. It is the highest situated city in Europe – 1560 m above sea level and almost 11,000 inhabitants. The administrative area of Davos is 284 km2 and as many as 8 different towns in the Landwasser River valley. 2 of these towns – Davos Dorf and Davos Platz – constitute the centre and the main built-up area; the others are even a fewer kilometres from the centre. The first mention of Davos can be found in papers from 1213. The territory was called Tavau and began to be settled by German-speaking colonists from neighboring areas of the Alps. Canton Graubünden, whose Davos is part, joined the Swiss Confederation in 1803.
