On Wednesday, September 2, a bus heading from Cairo to Amman fell on the road between Dahab and Nuweiba on Egyptian Sinai. 22 people died and 28 were injured; 20 ambulances were sent to the site. The Polish Ministry of abroad Affairs reported that among the victims there are no Polish citizens.
The bus collapsed on the Dahab–Nuweiba route
The accident occurred on Wednesday 2 September in the Sinai Peninsula, on the road connecting the resorts Dahab and Nuweiba. The bus was on its way from Cairo to Amman. According to the updated balance sheet of the Egyptian Ministry of Health, 22 people were killed and 28 injured.
20 ambulances were sent to the scene. The injured were transported to medical facilities in Sharm el-Sheik, Saint Catherine and the Al-Fayrouz Medical Complex. Surrounding hospitals are on advanced alert.
The Associated Press reported to Egypt and Jordan that among the victims were Egyptians and Jordanians. The Jordanian Ministry of abroad Affairs directed the squad from the Cairo embassy to Nuweiba to support the wounded and families killed.
Polish Ministry of abroad Affairs: deficiency of Poles among victims
The spokesperson for the Ministry of abroad Affairs Maciej Wewiór told Polish media that among the victims there were no Polish citizens. This is the most crucial news for families of Poles presently in Egypt.
The hotel recommends people going to Egypt to take peculiar care in most territory of the country. Official travel information besides indicates the areas where the Ministry of abroad Affairs advises not to travel. Dahab and Nuweiba lie on the east coast of confederate Sinai, visited by tourists.
Before leaving, it is worth to registry a journey in the Odysseus strategy and save contact with the Polish consular post. The scope of travel insurance must be checked before travel, not only after the accident. In a crisis situation, fast contact with family, insurer and consul is practical.
The origin of the accident is being investigated
The Egyptian Ministry of wellness did not state the authoritative origin of the accident. Local media reported a possible tyre break, but this version requires confirmation by the investigators. At this stage, there is simply a certain location, the number of victims and the scale of the rescue action.
The families who are killed should be respected. At the same time, the tragic balance reminds us that the popular tourist destination does not release travellers from caution, check MFA messages and prepare for an emergency situation. For Poles it is most crucial to confirm the ministry of abroad affairs: our citizens were not among the victims.
