Russian-Ukrainian War (as of morning 01.09.2026):
- On the night of August 31 on September 1, Ukrainian drones again arrived very profoundly in Russia. Attacks have been reported in the Moscow, Samara and Leningrad region. Ust-Ługa on the Baltic is peculiarly crucial – 1 of the most crucial Russian export ports for oil and oil products. The politician of the Leningrad region has confirmed harm to port infrastructure after the drone attack, although the failure scale is not yet established,
- Russian air strikes – Russia continues a series of very intense attacks on Kiev and its surroundings. - It is worth noting the change in Russian air tactics. According to Ukrainian data, during the 4 erstwhile days Russia sent around 1,500 drones against Ukraine, of which more than half were jet structures. The aim is not only to destruct individual facilities, but besides to keep hours of alarms, exhaust the supplies of missiles and work of Ukrainian operators, and paralyze transport and the average functioning of large cities. Ukraine is responding to the improvement of its own fast interception drones,
- The Russians have taken Andrijiwka, northeast of Dobropilia,
- Russian troops continued infiltration in the Kostiantiniwka–Druzzkiwka area and in the Slavic prefield. In the Kostiantiniwka region, further Russian attempts were made to capture Krasny Kutu and Torski. At the same time, Ukrainians proceed to keep positions blocking the easy bypass of the Wire. The ISW estimates that the Russians may effort to approach Slavic and Kramatorsk from the east in the following months, but the current pace of action does not indicate the fast capture of these cities,
- Ukrainian forces counterattacked, recovering part of Kupańska's building,
- The Kiev Verchevna Council is considering moving its meetings to a bunker, or a general decision of parliament to, for example, Lviv, which is much safer for bombings,
- Once again, there was a limited channel of American-Ukrainian-Russian talks. Volodymyr Zelenski had a conversation on 31 August with peculiar Envoy Donald Trump Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. According to Zelenski, the conversation was "detailed and constructive" and the parties are working on setting dates for the visit of both Americans to Ukraine. Zelenski gave them information about the situation on the front and on the Russian attacks, while suggesting that September may be a period of crucial change,
- In parallel, there was an crucial American-Russian contact on the G20 forum. Russian Finance Minister Anton Siwanov appeared personally at a gathering of G20 finance ministers in Asheville, USA – for the first time since the start of the full-scale war. He met with Scott Bessent. According to reports, the conversation concerned, among others, the American peace plan, but Bessent was to make it clear to the Russian side that there would be no economical relief for Russia until the war was over. Europeans reacted very coolly to the very invitation of Sijuanov; Germany and Poland stressed that Russia is inactive an aggressor and that Europe is preparing further sanctions.
