Italy and Dublin rules. Left plays fear of migration

Finland and Sweden announce the return to Italy of any people subject to Dublin procedures, and Fratelli d'Italia 20 August responds to the opposition that there is no mass crisis. Eurostat submitted 24 152 incoming requests to Italy in 2025. For Poland it is simply a lesson: boundaries and procedures must work.

A dispute in Rome over Dublin rules

The Italian right resists an opposition attack on persons returned to Italy on the basis of Dublin procedures. By Libero MP Giangiacomo Calovini of Fratelli d’Italia accused Elly Schlein and the Democratic organization of mixing respective separate cases: Schengen suspensions, secondary movements of migrants and the fresh EU migration pact. This is not a tiny dispute over words. It's a conflict to enforce the rules or surrender before the left's emotional campaign.

The origin of tension is Finland and Sweden's announcements, which are to send any of the people for whom the asylum application is being processed to Italy, to Rome. Libero besides points to earlier movements of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Swiss public service SWI swissinfo.ch stated that Switzerland is scheduled to resume its transfers to Italy in late August, after almost a four-year break, and the first cases are to be conducted gradually.

Numbers are more crucial than hysteria

Eurostat has shown the scale of the problem without organization fog. In 2025 EU countries sent 111 708 requests for transfer of work for examining an asylum application16,620 outbound transfers were actually made. Italy reported the highest number of incoming applications: 24 152 as estimated by Eurostat. That's a lot, but you should be honest: the Dublin proposal is not the same as a real individual transfer.

This difference besides matters for the Polish debate. The left hand in Europe frequently uses the same method: it takes a complex procedure, imposes moral blackmail on it and accuses the right hand of deficiency of humanity. Meanwhile, a mature state must separate between human dignity and chaos in law. Migrant is simply a person. The procedure is the work of the State. The border is simply a condition of order.

A fresh pact, an old question of sovereignty

Finnish Migration Office informs that Finland implements the EU Migration Pact since June 2026. The Authority states that the fresh regulation is intended to strengthen external border control and to improve asylum and return procedures. Brussels sells it as order. However, the real test is different: whether national states will hold real control of whether they will be drawn into the mechanics of shifting work and costs.

DN has already described more broadly, what the EU migration pact means for Poland. For our country, the stakes are crucial. Poland must not let any European procedure to undermine its right to decide who is in its territory, under what conditions and with what consequences in violation of the law. European solidarity must not mean an invoice to countries that have so far pursued a more cautious policy.

Polish lesson from Italian dispute

The Italian debate shows how rapidly the issue of migration becomes a tool for organization fighting. Left-liberal elites usually effort to disarm the dispute with the language of emotion, and then wonder that voters request hard borders. If you do not follow your own decisions, citizens lose patience. If he does it honestly and legally, the left screams about a crisis of values.

In Poland, the same problem returns erstwhile discussing Schengen, deportations and border control. We just wrote that The Schengen dispute and migration cannot be replaced by mockery from the opponent. A national state is not from administering another people's mistakes. It is from protecting its own citizens, the legal order and the interest of the community.

The case of Italy should so be read carefully. Not as an exotic conflict in Rome, but as a informing to Warsaw. If you lose control of the procedure, you rapidly lose control of politics. And then the bill is paid by average people: taxes, safety and always weaker trust in the state.
