The ongoing war stopped holding presidential and parliamentary elections in Ukraine. Maciej Pieczyński wonders in the weekly “To the Thing” who will replace Volodymir Zelenski, who gradually lost his popularity after the end of the armed action.
The five-year word of office of a comedian who became head of state ended in May. As far as the conflict with Russia continues, Zelenski's position seems to be safe. There will be no election for the end of the war, and polls talk of the 70 percent support of the Ukrainians for the continued temporary performance of this function.
"Most [electors] besides believe that in the current situation either constructively criticize power or refrain from criticism at all," says Maciej Pieczyński. The opposition for a fresh vote is not seeking. tv is dominated by a power camp sustaining in society the mobilization of war. The president besides remains the most popular politician, although he is now trusted by just over half of his countrymen, which means a immense convention compared to the beginning of the war.
"But the spell began to snort slow – as it became clear that the war would last a long time and would not necessarily end in full victory. The Ukrainians were no longer satisfied with the individual courage and talent of the krasomous president, and the opposition and media (except for the authoritative transmission of Telemaraton) began to ask uncomfortable questions about why the state was not well prepared to defy the aggression, why the Kherson region was so rapidly occupied, why it was not ordered for the time of evacuation of residents of threatened areas" - the analysis states.
The end of the war means inevitable territorial concessions and the return of opposition to the cameras of state tv stations. These are not good for Zelenski. It changes its approach to a possible second word in the presidential denim. While he ruled out a fresh start at first, present he claims that he needs more time to fulfill his promises.
Among the possible successors was the resigned commander-in-chief of the army, General Walerij Merit. However, its popularity – especially awesome after the cancellation and “sent” at a diplomatic facility in London – is not equal, in the author's opinion, to political talent.
I hear Ukrainians would love to see a organization created by officers on stage. In the media, the head of military intelligence Kyryło Budanow, whose popularity and activity “says origin concern in the surroundings of Zelenski, is intensively promoted. Like the Merit, however, he is reportedly not curious in changing his role.
When taking into account surveys of social opinion, “over the surface” means a zero balance – that is, the position “on the plus” in trust rankings – only the head of SBU Wasyl Maluk and the politician of the Nikolay Oblast Vitali Kim are standing alongside the current president. The popularity of the others eliminates the alleged negative electorate.
However, according to the author “To Things”, the most serious candidates for triumph in the presidential race are: Petro Poroshenko and Serhiy Prytuła. “Julia Tymoshenko, Vitali Klickko, Dmytro Kułęba or Dmytro Razumkow can besides start the fight, if they will, of course. The bucket was rather popular in June. However, he is more a diplomat than a politician, alternatively without a backdrop, so resignation should not push him to fight for power. Razumkov is simply a erstwhile president of the ultimate Council on behalf of the Servant of the Nation who went to the opposition and founded the organization Reasonable People. In the case of Tymoshenko, designation does not mean popularity. After the war broke out, the loudest thing about the erstwhile Prime Minister happened erstwhile the media caught her on a beach in Dubai. Nevertheless, an experienced populist cannot be underestimated" – emphasised Maciej Pieczyński.
More seriously, however, 1 can think of the possible success of the Kiev mayor Vitali Klicka, scoring Zelenski for ill-prepared defence of the capital.
Working to regain support Poroshenko is inactive struggling with the distrust of as many as 2 thirds of statistical compatriots. Media besides promotes Serhii Pritula, a colleague in the manufacture of the current president. He was a presenter in the media, actor and comedian. Now he arranges aid for the army, which makes although deprived of political background, he inactive enjoys the approval of future voters.
“(...) erstwhile peace comes, a popular volunteer may become a serious rival to slyes of the nation. And the second in history, and even the second in a row comedian to become president of Ukraine. Unless, of course, Zelenski decides to find a way to stay in office at all costs. However, Ukrainians have already defeated unwanted power twice in this century..." concludes the author.
