On 1 December in Warsaw there will be a demonstration entitled “Yes for Education! Not for depravity!” which will gather parents, teachers and representatives of social organizations from all over Poland. The demonstration will begin at 12 p.m. in Castle Square and is an expression of opposition to the planned introduction of compulsory sex education into schools by the Ministry of National Education.

The event is organised by the Coalition for the Salvation of the Polish School. The picket is besides supported by the National Education and Education Section of the NSZZ “Solidarity”. The organizers anticipate up to 10,000 participants. Magdalena Czarnik, president of the Association Parents defend Children, announces that protest in the capital is only the beginning of a broad action:

"We want the parents who wake up in Poland with large strength to be noticed besides at the level of Brussels and Geneva, which is what we are counting on," he emphasised.

A protest supported by thousands of people

Organizers inform about a large interest in the event.

"Telephones are breaking up. More schools, communities, associations with information about coming to Warsaw are calling. Autocars are organized practically from all over Poland" – reports Magdalena Czarnik.

The manifestation is attended by parents, teachers and members of the Coalition for the Salvation of the Polish School, which brings together over 80 national and Polish organizations. The coalition warns that changes in the education system, specified as lowering the level of teaching or introducing compulsory sexual education classes, lead to depravation of children and departure from Polish traditions and Christian heritage.

International context and support for lawyers

Organizers mention to the provisions of the Polish Constitution and global legal acts which warrant parents precedence in raising children. They are supported by global lawyers from Alliance defence Freedom International.

Accusations against WHO sexual education

Special controversy arises from the programming basis of the fresh subject "health education", which, as Magdalena Czarnik points out, is based on WHO standards:

"Minister Nowacka has forgotten who is the sovereign in this country, and we will clearly and clearly remind you: the sovereign is us – citizens, us – parents and we have precedence in raising our children. And this is guaranteed not only by the Polish Constitution, but besides by 7 global legal acts, which are the origin of the law, which are legitimized and we have the right to appeal to them" - she added. "The rights of parents and the welfare of the kid are safeguarded by the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Article 21, the Polish government is obliged to comply with global legal acts," he says.

Parents and social organisations call for respect for the rule of subsidiarity, which assumes that the state should support citizens alternatively than impose top-down solutions on them.

"So for education, not for depravity" – voice of parents' opposition

Magdalena Czarnik recalls that akin protests in 2015 have brought effect. The protest in Warsaw is to be a strong signal for national and global authorities. The organisers hope that the echo of opposition will scope Brussels and Geneva, pointing out the request to defend parents' rights and defend children from depravity.
