We request a green wave for the trams! How we "made a fuss" at legislature Regeneration Cities

III global legislature – Energy Urban Regeneration organized in the erstwhile power plant (now the exhibition and conference centre) EC1 in Łódź was devoted, as the organizers write, to regeneration processes in the context of energy change. specified events usually associate with theoretical lectures and debates, from which nothing applicable later comes out. However, this time it was different, and that's due to the fact that the squad of the Institute of civilian Affairs decided to make any confusion...

We decided to colour this global event slightly, adding 1 additional item to it – an unplanned item in the authoritative agenda of the day.

We request a green wave for the trams! – it was the slogan of our picket, besides present on a banner made specifically for this occasion. We stood in the early morning, on the day of the beginning of Congress, in front of the main entrance to the revitalized civilian Power Plant EC1 in the centre of Łódź. We've prepared a banner and a megaphone. We've been waiting for legislature guests.

We could not be missed, so we have generated a large deal of interest – besides among those present at the beginning of local media events.

Picket – we request a green wave for trams!

It was an chance to talk about what the green wave is for trams and why its introduction is so crucial for our city – Łódź.

I talk through a megaphone – echo reflects my words from old brick walls. I am reading an open letter, which I wrote to Mrs. president Hanna Zdanowska and Mr. Vice president Adam Hermit:

,Madam President, Madam Vice President,

We are pleased that Łódź is the host of the 3rd edition of the legislature Regeneration of Cities from 30-31 May. The subject of energy efficiency in general is very crucial and timely for social, environmental and economical reasons. However, the real benefit of specified a legislature will be gained only if the substance does not end on a beautifully organized event and on theoretical considerations of the subject.

That is why we propose a concrete, real solution that will improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of Łódź. This improvement is: GREEN FALL FOR TRAMWAY.

Green wave means absolute precedence for trams in traffic. The light signal is thus programmed so that the trams on a given way can decision smoothly, stopping only at stops and not wasting time on red light (...).”

I gotta halt reading due to the fact that there's a congresswoman next to me. He asks if we're going to disrupt the event by going inside with the sound system. I answer that this is simply a completely peaceful demonstration with an optimistic message. I see it calms my caller.

I read further:

,,The actual green wave is an intelligent and flexible strategy – adapts to the real situation in tram traffic. For example, traffic flow must not be affected by a individual slowing down on a tram at a halt or by a careless driver for a minute blocking the crossing.”

Once again, I interrupt the reading due to the fact that I can see that the Vice president of Łódź Adam Pustelnik is approaching the entrance.

I give him an open letter, which is attached to our social paper – Citizenship – number devoted to Łódź collective communication.

The minute the letter was handed was recorded by a camera of local Łódź television. The president thanks you and with gifts from the Łódź socialists goes inside. He'll be speaking in a minute at the authoritative beginning of Congress.
