We presented the Julius Bardach Prize for Best Doctoral Work on the Grand Duchy of Lithuania

On 19 June 2024, at the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania, the ceremony of awarding the Janusz Bardach Prize for the years 2022/2023 was held.

The winner was Mr Jan Bulak from Krakow for the work entitled "Economic foundations for the functioning of parish churches in the Diocese of Żmudzka (Telszewski) from 1795 to 1944".

In addition to the award of the Prize, a gathering of the Institute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania took place, during which a group of researchers from Poland, Belarus and Lithuania paid attention to the first edition of the 3rd Statute of Lithuania in a translation into Lithuanian. 3 speakers spoke during the meeting:

  • Andrzej Zakrzewski (University of Warsaw), the Statute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Facts – myths – doubts.
  • Andrej Radaman (University of Białystok), Discussions on amendments to the Statute on the Seyms of Nowogródzki Voivodeship and participation of the political elite fresh Kingdom in the codification of WKL law between 1569-1632.
  • Ričardas Jaramičius (University of Witold the Great), The first translation of the 3rd Statute of Lithuania into Lithuanian: problems and challenges.

The J. Bardach Prize, established by the Institute of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, is awarded for doctoral work (candidacy), devoted to the issues of culture, politics and the law of the lands of the erstwhile Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
