In the latest column “We are all lawyers – an election run different than all?” in “Rzeczpospolita” adw. Maciej Zaborowski He took the presidential run that just ended.
The author presented a message that political clashes were mainly conducted on the Internet, and the destiny of candidates was decided not in courts, but on the X portal. According to mec. Zaborowski's conventional media had lost their erstwhile function — they became a propaganda tool in the hands of the staff, losing independency and integrity.
Public events, specified as the return of a wanted criminal or media controversy, became elements of the run theatre – noted the author of the column. Society took over the language of the law – everyone had something to say, everyone gave advice. There have been many criminal charges against candidates and their surroundings, leading to grotesque legal and media disputes. Although many cases should theoretically go to the courts, according to the author of the column, the final decisions were already in the social media.
The run showed that we live in a state of lawyers, but not necessarily in a state of law. Nevertheless, the author relievedly accepted the end of this peculiar period in the public debate and expressed his hope for a minute of rest.
