Ex-Vice Minister's harsh allegation
Maciej Wąsik, Euro MP of Law and Justice and erstwhile Deputy Minister of Interior and Administration, gave a sharp assessment of the pace of construction of the Shield East. On Thursday’s “News of the Day” on Radio Maryja said that after 2 years “a fewer kilometres” was built, after which he defined the pace of work as a kilometer per year. On this basis, he argued that strengthening Poland towards Russia would take 60 years.
It's a political charge, not an authoritative implementation report. However, it must be taken seriously due to the fact that it concerns the primary work of the state: to defend the border and prepare the country for aggression from the East. The government cannot respond with assurances alone. He should show Poles measurable progress, deadlines and scope of work done.
A fewer miles is not the full Shield.
Information about the first section of respective kilometres is confirmed in the data provided by the Ministry of Defence, which was cited by the Polish Press Agency. Government announces acceleration
In February 2026, MON announced the programme's entry into the next phase and indicated priorities for the current year. The government summary of the first 4th talks about the beginning of construction of engineering warehouses for bulk materials, prefabricates and barriers. The plan for the period 2026–2029 envisages completion of the engineering expansion in the belt up to 400 metres from the border and reaching 30 percent of the work on acquired properties in 2026. In subsequent years, the rate is expected to emergence to 60 and 90 percent.
So there are actions that Wąsika does not consider. There are besides reasons for controlling pace and quality. In June 2025, the MON launched a review of the proceedings for the supply of engineering elements after doubts about the tender arose. At the time, the hotel indicated that no transportation was yet made or received.
Safety is not measured by messages
Russia is at war in Ukraine and Belarus participates in hybrid force on the Polish border. In specified a geopolitical position, the hold is not a specified position in the authoritative table. It means weaker deterrence, greater hazard for soldiers and higher cost of catching up in a time of crisis.
Therefore, the dispute over the Shield of the East cannot end with the exchange of effective sentences. The opposition has a work to look at power on their hands, and the government has a work to print data to test progress. What matters is the real ability to halt the opponent, defend Polish citizens and the time purchased by the army to react. The Polish border will not defend its presentation. She must be prepared in the field.
