The first circular of the presidential election yielded amazing results, and 1 of the biggest losers turned out to be Simon Holovnia. Publishers Łukasz Warzecha and Rafał Ziemkiewicz comment on the failure of the leader of the 3rd Road and unexpected successes of another candidates.
Fishing in sixth place – disaster without illusions
According to exit poll, Szymon Hołownia only finished sixth, gaining little than 5% of support. Luke Warches, publicist “To the Thing”, leaves no illusions:
“The sixth place of Simon Holowna is his defeat, it is no another name. A man who went into politics as an alternate to a two-pole deal that was expected to be in 3rd place and hand out cards doesn't even get 5% of the vote. This is simply a drama for Holownia and the 3rd Way.”
Warzecha indicates that a weak consequence can trigger interior processes in the Holownia and PSL group. Will the 3rd Way last the defeat of its leader? This question becomes peculiarly applicable in the context of the rotational position of the talker of the Sejm, which is occupied by Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish.
Election surprises: Braun and Mentzen with advanced support
The election results besides brought any surprises. Grzegorz Braun finished fourth, exceeding most forecasts, and Sławomir Mentzen besides achieved a higher than expected result.
"The second surprise is simply a very good consequence of Grzegorz Braun. Overshooting most expectations and most polls. The 4th place is the large success of this policy, but this can besides be added to the decent consequence of Sławomir Mentzen." – comments Warzech.
Total support for candidates related to the broad right (including Braun and Mentzen) exceeded 20%, which shows that the conservative electorate in Poland inactive has crucial influence.
"Tusk got bęcki" – Ziemkiewicz's comment
Rafał Ziemkiewicz, another guest of the electoral evening “To Things”, pointed out the distribution of forces between political camps:
"It can be concluded that the results of right-wing candidates are 50% with a light plus. And the candidates representing the ruling coalition are little than 40%. Zandberg, however, appeared under strong anti-government slogans. Bęcki got not only the left, but the bęcki got first of all Donald Tusk.”
According to Ziemkiewicz, the mediocre results of the left and 3rd Way are a failure for the full opposition centered around the Civic Platform.
What about the 3rd Way?
Holowna's defeat makes the future of his group questionable. Will the PSL effort to become independent of the alliance? Will rotational leadership in the Sejm be preserved? These questions may dominate the political debate in the coming months.
The second circular of the presidential election will take place on 1 June, and the fight between Rafał Trzaskowski and Karol Nawrocki is expected to be very even.
