THE YEAR
BLOOD SUNDAY
VOIN
“Blood Sunday” 11 July 1943 is considered to be the highest minute of genocide by Ukrainian chauvinists on Poles from 1939 to 1947. On that day we celebrate the National Day of Memory of Victims of Genocide made by Ukrainian Nationalists.
The Volyn massacre is simply a common word for a number of Ukrainian nationalist actions directed against the Polish population residing in Volyn and east Małopolska. During the attacks that lasted from 1942 to 1944, at least 100,000 Poles were brutally murdered in the summertime of 1943. The action was initiated by OUN-B activists (bankers) and performed primarily by UPA formations assisted by peasants. The most murders made in the summertime of 1943 were on Sundays. Ukrainians utilized the fact that the Polish population gathered during Mass in churches, which was an excellent mark for criminals.
Representatives of Rot of the independency March and National defender present laid wreaths during today's central celebrations at the Grave of the Unknown Soldier, paying tribute to the murdered Poles.
