The fresh investment in Sheffield, worth over £25 million, is the first to reconstruct the critical capacity of weapon barrel production in the UK. According to the British Ministry of Defence, the plant is officially open on Thursday 12 June with an area of over 8,000 m2 and is expected to start operations by the end of this year. The mill will make Sheffield the national hub of haubic production. **It is worth noting that the UK had previously had specified capabilities, but lost them after the [conclusion of the AS-90 Haubic program, on the basis of which the Polish Krab was created](https://defence24.pl/industrial/krab-valley-heart-artillery-colon-history-analysis). In Poland, the production of 155 mm barrels started a fewer years ago by Huta Stalowa Wola – maker of Kraba** after modernization of the barrel plant. It can be said, therefore, that past is turning the wheel, although the fresh mill will deal with a somewhat different range.
