The words of Volodymyr Zelenski are quoted by the state news agency Ukriformon on Friday. “The situation in the Kurdish region is, of course, very difficult. The task of the Kursk operation was to draw troops from Pokrovsk, from the Kharkovsky direction and from Sum. Our boys are absolutely heroic, they took specified a strong blow," the president of Ukraine said.

He explained that after the Ukrainian units entered the Kursk region in August 2024, “the tension fell to the Kharkiv direction”, as the opponent shifted the “maximum number” of his troops into the Kursk region.

— We understood all that. We were just strong people who understood that at any point there were chances that the Russians would halt at Pokrowski. And so it did. The Pokrowski direction was stabilized, as was the Kharkowski direction,” said Zelenski.

Ukraine demented about Kursk

Earlier on Friday, Armed Forces General Staff Ukraine has denied reports of a circular of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk Oblast. The Command ensured that there was no specified threat, and that individual units were withdrawn into "better" defensive positions.

‘Reports of alleged “circulation” of Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region do not correspond to reality and are created by Russians for political purposes and to exert force on Ukraine and its partners. The situation has not changed importantly during the day. Combat activities in the operational area of the military group “Kursk” continue,” says the General Staff Communication.

The staff noted that the Ukrainian units regrouped, retreated to more favourable defensive positions and carry out tasks assigned to them in the territory of the Kursk region. "Our soldiers are resisting the offensive actions of their opponent and are effectively threatening him with fire from all kinds of weapons. Since the beginning of the current day in the Kursk direction there have been 13 combat clashes. The danger of lapsing our units does not exist," said the General Staff.
