In military circles, the U.S. made Poland's proposal as part of the Excess defence Articles programme is increasingly discussed. This U.S. mechanics allows you to pass on military equipment to allies, which has been declared unnecessary, but is inactive usable.
According to Gazeta.pl, and later confirmed unofficially the Defence24 portal, this time it is about recognized Stryker armoured transporters, utilized so far by the American National Guard.
Stryker transporters are real reinforcements, not Yankee scrap
However, these vehicles will not be sold to us. They are to be donated, but there is simply a condition: Poland will take on the costs of renovation, modernization and logistics. Americans plan to reduce units utilizing Strykers and control to much lighter conflict platforms specified as Infantry Squad Vehicle.
This change opens the door for the transfer of Strykers to another NATO countries. For Poland, which has intensively strengthened its land capacity in fresh years and transferred a large part of its own BWP-1 and the Rosomaks to Ukraine, it is an almost irrefutable proposal.
Stryker is not a withdrawn scrap that they want to get free of the US at all costs. It's a combat-tested device that has been in abroad operations for over 2 decades – from Iraq to Syria. The 8-wheel vehicle combines the features of the infantry transporter with a modular combat platform. It reaches 100 km/h, has a scope of up to 500 km and occurs in respective versions, including command, medical, reconnaissance and combat with a 30 mm game or anti-tank module.
“The military peculiarly appreciate it for mobility and ease of transport. Stryker is located in the cargo hold of the C-130 Hercules aircraft, which means that it can be moved virtually anywhere in the planet – writes Bogdan Stech from Spider's Web portal.
The Polish army knows these machines very well. They were utilized during joint exercises with American individuals in Orzysz or Bemów Piski. Now it may turn out that the same vehicles will be permanently sent to Polish units, thus supplementing the deficiencies after the transfer of arms to Ukraine and supporting fresh brigades formed within the Shield East.
The condition is clear.
Although the U.S. offer has been made, the final decision has not yet been made. Now it is likely to be analysed whether the admission of Strykers will be operationally and economically viable.
The costs of restoring vehicles to full efficiency, their adaptation to Polish standards and integration with the current command and logistics strategy will be crucial here. Many besides depend on the number of copies available and their method condition.
Experience from the past shows, however, that specified "presents" can be highly beneficial – previously Poland received MRAP vehicles of the Cougar and M-ATV type. If the conditions are favourable and the analysis is positive, Strykers can shortly strengthen the flanks of Polish brigades. Although the vehicles are to come to us for free, the decision to accept them will require a cold calculation.
